THE WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC IS ONE OF THE BEST TOURNAMENTS IN ALL OF SPORTS
The 2023 World Baseball Classic wrapped just 33 days ago with Japan taking home its third championship since the tournament's inception in 2006.
If you're a baseball fan and didn't get to catch any of this year's classic, you missed out on one of the best atmospheres and competitions in all of sports.
With the new tournament still being very new to mainstream public, attendance numbers had much more room to grow, and they certainly did just that.
The previous record for attendance at the World Baseball Classic was set in 2017 at a total of 510,056. This year's tournament which primarily took place in Miami, Taiwan, and Japan almost doubled the record, setting the new bar at 1,010,999 fans.
The tournament was a smashing success both competitively and financially, and the mainstream sports audience is finally starting to give it the spotlight it deserves.

Having recently had the chance to talk to someone who plays internationally, it opened up my eyes for how important and exciting international is and what it can become.
Antonio Barranca, catcher for the Dominican Republic's 21U team, had a lot to say about the World Baseball Classic and its importance in the grand scheme of baseball.
"The atmosphere when going abroad is different than anything I've ever experienced," says Barranca. "Having the opportunity to put your country on the map and wear that flag across your chest is very humbling and the most fun time of my life."
Barranca, a member of the Atlanta Braves organization, is currently making a name for himself in the Florida Complex League at just 21 years old.
In the 2022 season, Barranca led his team in walks (26) and knocked 2 home runs and 16 runs batted in.
"My goal is to be a part of the next great DR team at the WBC," says Barranca.
The 2023 World Baseball Classic brought out the best of all the superstars in today's game, including Los Angeles Angels teammates Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani.
Fans have always fantasized about what a potential matchup be between the two MVP teammates, and their championship game clash was one for the storybooks.

This moment between two of baseball's biggest stars will ultimately do wonders for the progression of the sport. The World Baseball Classic, which at one point gained no media coverage and passed through the eyes of sports fans, is now known as one of the most entertaining and electric tournaments in all of sports.
